How I Support My Body Inside & Out During Pageant Prep

October 09, 20254 min read

One thing I've learned about myself is that it's easier to maintain my healthy habits when I always have a goal to work toward. I am creating systems which help me not only reach my goals, but to maintain the progress I've made through previous goals as I continue forward with new ones.

I've been preparing for the Woman of the Universe pageant for months. It is top of mind right now because it's only a few days away and there is still so much to do! Pageant prep is about so much more than walking in heels and wearing a gown. It’s about supporting my body, my mind, and my spirit so I can show up as the very best version of myself.

For many years, but in this season especially, I’ve been increasingly intentional about what I use—both inside and out. Every product I reach for has a purpose: to nourish, to strengthen, and to help me feel confident and radiant as I step on stage.

The Night Before

Every new day begins before I go to bed. I have to remind my self that regular and sufficient sleep is a foundational aspect of proper self-care. I'm still working on consistently going to bed on time so I can get a full night of good sleep.

  • Hair Bonnet – I wear a satin hair bonnet every night to help keep my hair healthy and prevent breakage. It also helps me stay warm at night since my bedroom is in the basement.

  • Lip Tape – As a mouth breather, I've learned how important it is for me to breath through my nose. I use lip tape to help keep my lips together while I sleep so I breath through my nose.

  • Sleep Mask – To block out the annoying blue light that flashes from my water heater sensor, and to protect my eyelashes.

  • Serenity Oil or Softgels– A calming oil blend to help me relax and drift off to sleep with ease.

Daily Wellness Support (Inside)

The next step is the inside, because how I fuel my body affects everything else. I eat as clean as I can and make most of my food from scratch.

  • Morning smoothie – I start my day off with a plant based smoothie. You can find my recipe and all the details of how I created it, here.

  • doTERRA Foundational Wellness Bundle – My foundation for daily energy, vitality, and filling in nutritional gaps. I also add these to my bundle:

  • PB Assist+ Probiome Gut Complex– For gut health, which affects everything from mood to skin.

  • TerraZyme Digestive Enzymes – Especially helpful with my food sensitivities.

  • Lemon Water with Lemon oil – Cleansing and refreshing, this is a simple ritual I love each morning. Find my recipe for my morning lemon water here.

Skincare & Body Care (Outside)

Glowing skin is a confidence booster, especially under stage lights. I keep my routine simple and consistent.

Why It Matters

For me, these products are more than “beauty prep.” They’re daily reminders that taking care of myself—body, mind, and spirit—is part of my stewardship. When I show up on that stage, I’m not just presenting a gown or a smile. I’m presenting myself as citizen of the Kingdom of God. As such, it's my responsibility to show up in the best condition possible so I can better serve others and be a light for those in the darkness.

And I want every woman reading this to know: you don’t need a pageant stage to start taking care of yourself in ways that make you feel beautiful, strong, and whole.
